BIMSolutions presenting at 2nd annual BIM Forum
Tuesday, 18 January 2011 00:00

InsightBIM is more relevant when it is integrated with other business processes and the purpose of this conference is to provide you with insights into valuable business uses of BIM so that you can experience increased productivity gains and get the real payback of true integration.

Insight Information has assembled a faculty of North American industry experts in the use of BIM and IPD, who will cover a broad range of topics to assist you in understanding how highly BIM-enabled, collaborative projects can transform project delivery.

Gain valuable information on:

•Advanced uses of VDC to improve outcomes
•Evolving business challenges for design teams
•Model-based estimating and the cost-consultant’s role
•Dispute resolution and new clauses in legal contracts
•Future trends in software and integrated delivery
•BIM, GIS and facility management
•Risk management – leveraging BIM to reduce costs

Case Studies include:

•BIM vs Non-BIM Projects
•The Hewlett-Packard Data Centre
•Krembil Discovery Centre, University Health Network
•The Model Says It Should… Integrating BIM with Onsite Construction

Our keynote speakers have varied and extensive BIM expertise. Richard Lowe, (Duane Morris LLP, Philadelphia), led the national USA effort to create the ConsensusDOCS BIM Addendum. He will share insights from American experiences in collaboration and the legal implications of BIM and IPD. Derek Cunz, a Top 25 Newsmaker in 2006 recognized for his contribution to the design and construction industry, will provide insights into how Mortenson Construction advances uses of VDC to improve project outcomes. Dan Gramer specializes in expanding the role of BIM in the field and will share how Turner encourages participation from designers and subcontractors. He will also provide valuable insights into model-based estimating. Kimon Onuma, a leader in the BIM world and creator of BIMStorms, will demonstrate how you can maximize the value of the “I” of BIM.

Richard Ziegler from BIMSolutions will be presenting on March 24, 2011, 9:45am about:

•Keys to BIM implementation
•Fees involved with BIM workflow - with increased savings in the field, should the design schedule be changed?
•Sharing the model
    –Risks to take into consideration
    –Intellectual property
•Design changes - how they affect BIM process

We are confident that you will find this unique conference and the networking opportunities to be an excellent investment of your time and look forward to seeing you in March.

BIMSolutions is now part of BuildingSMART Alliance
Monday, 03 May 2010 00:00

buildingsmart_allianceCreated to spearhead technical, political, and financial support for advanced digital technology in the real property industry—from concept, design and construction through operations and management—the buildingSMART alliance operates within the independent nonprofit National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS). This public/private initiative expands on goals of the North American Chapter of the International Alliance for Interoperability (IAI-NA), whose Industry Foundation Classes (IFCs) have initiated open standards for national and international links among industry players. It provides developers and users of Building Information Models (BIMs), the digital tools that are increasingly helping to share highly accurate information throughout a facility's life cycle.

In contrast with centuries-old ways of documenting facilities with two-dimensional drawings plus specifications—a process recently automated with Computer Aided Design (CAD)—new digital technology brings together owners, operators, designers, constructors, regulators and other stakeholders around a single Building Information Model (BIM), a unified tool that offers unprecedented accuracy, speed and economy. The closely related concept of open standards that let all users communicate quickly and efficiently, nationally and internationally, led to the creation of the International Alliance for Interoperability and the coinage "buildingSMART."

BIMSolutions present at RAIC Festival of Architecture 2009 in Montreal
Tuesday, 16 June 2009 00:00

RAICBIMSolutions participated in a BIM workshop during the RAIC Festival of Architecture 2009 in Montreal. The theme of the presentation was "BIM Supported Collaborative Project Delivery".

The Festival of Architecture and Forum was held in Montreal from June 17 to 20, 2009.

The theme of the 2009 Festival and Forum, "Vision and Commitment," sums up in two words the unique and significant contribution that our profession makes to solving the environmental and economic problems that face us at the beginning of the 21st century.

With their visionary and holistic approach to the built environment, architects can help improve the quality of life in their communities when they make a full commitment and have access to effective tools for implementing their vision and bringing it to life.

The Festival will examine sustainable development, redefining the profession's approach to increasing the influence and effectiveness of architects' activities in the current environment, and look at examples of accomplishments in which architects have played a key role.

insight_2Best Practices for Leveraging New Technologies to Increase Efficiency and Profitability in Construction

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is rapidly revolutionizing the construction industry and the bottom line of those who have adopted it. Stakeholders who understand the value of BIM, accept and leverage new technology, and adopt best practices will have an advantage over their less savvy competitors.

Gain a competitive edge by attending this event and learning from industry experts who will focus discussion on:

•How BIM value differs between industry participants
•Best practices for sharing and managing data
•Legal insights into contractual implications of BIM
•The use of BIM for Property and Facility Management
•Successful deployment of BIM on existing buildings
•BIM and the standard of care – dealing with liability in a shared environment
•How LEED and BIM can work together to simplify and maximize credit delivery
•What Canadian BIM requirements, guidelines and standards might look like when established

BIMSolutions presented about "Industry and Owner readiness to Incorporate BIM Requirements Into Contracts"

BIMSolutions present at OAA 2009 Conference
Monday, 04 May 2009 00:00

OAAWhere are the architects? Our world is facing a number of pressures: global warming, sustainability, the food crisis, fuel costs and population growth. These are some of the hottest issues for people around the world. Residents, politicians and academics are all discussing the pressures, the severity of the issues, and the possible solutions. Where do we go from here? Architects are trained problem solvers. Is the profession engaged in the world in which we work and live?

BIMSolutions presented about "Real Life BIM for Integrated Design Process, Analysis and Coordination".
